The FIBA Asia Cup 2025 will be held from August 5 to 17.

The Indian men’s basketball team will be in action on the opening day of FIBA Asia Cup 2025 as they face Jordan in the Group C opener. India qualified for the FIBA Asia Cup 2025—which will be held in in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia from August 5 to 17—after finishing third in the qualifiers and subsequently winning their group in their final qualifying tournament.

This will be the 31st edition of the competition, which was inaugurated in 1960 and is held biennially, and the first time in the Gulf nation since 1997. A total of 16 teams, divided into four groups of four teams each, will compete in the event. India are in Group C with 16-time champions China, 2011 runners-up Jordan and host Saudi Arabia.

China are the most successful nation in the tournament history, having won the championship 16 times, followed by the Philippines (5) and Iran (3)—making the top three nations of the tournament.

Meanwhile, the Indian men’s basketball team have been a consistent part of the tournament since 1965, having missed only two tournaments since then with their best performance coming in 1969, 1979, and 1981, when they finished a credible fifth. In the last edition of the Asia Cup, India finished 16th, losing all their matches in a one-sided rout.

However, India will be confident heading into 2025 FIBA Asia Cup after defeating much higher-ranked nations in Bahrain and Kazakhstan enroute to qualification.
