On 7 February 2025, we published a follow-on consultation with updated proposals to account for new and relevant considerations, including proposed reforms to EPCs.

This consultation includes a summary of responses to the 2020 consultation which we considered while drafting the update and will form part of consideration on policy choices.

In the light of COVID-19, we have extended the consultation period to 8 January 2021 to give people more time to respond.

The government has committed to upgrade as many private rented sector homes as possible to Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) Band C by 2030, where practical, cost-effective and affordable.
