JOHANNESBURG - The police are firing back at claims it detonated explosives at Stilfontein’s Shaft 10 during a rescue operation.
SAPS spokesperson Athlenda Mathe dismissed the claims as blatant misinformation.
She warns those spreading the falsehoods could face legal action under the Explosives Act.
The police say no blast occurred, a fact verified during a recent site inspection by explosives experts.
The claim seems to come from a statement by the General Industries Workers Union of South Africa.
It alleges police bombed Shaft 10, leaving miners trapped or dead.
But, government says all miners were recovered from Shaft 11, located two kilometres away.
