Iliman Ndiaye: Why Everton Star Was Booked for His Celebration vs Brighton
Ndiaye stepped up to take the resultant spot-kick. His effort wasn't as great but it had enough to slide past the outstretched arms of Bart Verbruggen.
The 24-year-old then imitated a seagull as he celebrated in front of the home crowd. He also cupped his ears with referee Robinson booking him.
It is rare to see players get booked for celebrating their goals unless they take off their shirts, but there are no-go's for players.
IFAB Laws of the Game state that,
"Players can celebrate when a goal is scored, but the celebration must not be excessive; choreographed celebrations are not encouraged and must not cause excessive time-wasting. Leaving the field of play to celebrate a goal is not a cautionable offence but players should return as soon as possible."
The law proceeds to state that,
"A player must be cautioned, even if the goal is disallowed, for acting in a provocative, derisory or inflammatory way."
Fans reacted to the booking with many arguing the 'game is gone.'
"The club should be making a statement about the booking, really is ridiculous that the ref has booked him for it!" said Dembo1878.
Lisa Thomas said,
"Vardy trolls people week in and week out with his celebrations it is part of football."
George said,
"Iliman Ndiaye really got booked for doing a seagull celebration in front of the Brighton fans. The game is so far gone."
The game, which was David Moyes' 700th top-flight match as a manager, descended into chaos after the final whistle.
The win, which followed up on the win against Tottenham last week, took the Toffees seven points clear of the relegation zone.
has also reported on why Myles Lewis-Skelly was sent off during Arsenal's game against Wolves.
The 18-year-old received a straight red card from Michael Oliver for bringing down Matt Doherty as Wolves attempted a quick getaway.
The foul was cynical with many fans arguing it deserved a yellow card at best.
