While contributing to a debate on the floor of Parliament on Wednesday following the laying of the motion on Fisheries and Aquaculture Bill, 2025, Mr Nitiwul advised the citizens to avoid consuming fatty foods since it was not good for their health.
“If you have protruding stomach, you’re sick because of accumulation of fat. And so, you need to look at the food you eat and pay attention to your health,” he said.
The Bimbilla legislator, however, clarified that his comments did not imply that fat persons are sick.
Following the comments, Mr Bernard Ahiafor, the MP for Akatsi South and First Deputy Speaker, who was presiding said:” “this is Nitiwul theory,” triggering laughter from both side of the House.
Madam Emelia Arthur, the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, urged the House to support the bill since its passage would review and consolidate sustainable exploitation of the country’s fisheries resources and promote long-term management and conservation of marine life and ecosystem.
The legislation, she said, would also aid Ghana to evade the “yellow card” penalty imposed on her fisheries’ products on the European Union market.
