Hyderabad is set to emerge as a leading hub for medical and health tourism under the Telangana government’s long-term vision document, Telangana Rising 2047. Announcing this at the inauguration of AIG Hospital in Banjara Hills, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy highlighted the city’s growing reputation as a centre of excellence in healthcare, attracting patients from over 66 countries.
The government aims to provide free medical care and education to the poor, having allocated ₹11,500 crore for healthcare and ₹21,500 crore for education this year. The chief minister emphasised that doctors must serve at least a month in government hospitals as part of their social responsibility.
To enhance healthcare delivery, the state plans to introduce health profile cards for women in self-help groups and expand hospital infrastructure with 7,000 new beds, as well as the ongoing construction of major facilities, including the new Osmania Hospital.
The chief minister also urged the Union government to award Dr Nageshwar Reddy the Bharat Ratna and called for improved air connectivity to the Middle East to boost medical tourism.
