Cairo, June 22, (dpa/GNA) – The pro-Iranian Houthi militia in Yemen, on Sunday condemned the US attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities as “brutal and cowardly aggression.”
They stated that these actions were “a blatant violation” of Iran’s sovereignty and “a clear breach” of international law. The attack, they said, was part of the “boundless, criminal support” of the United States for Israel.
Just the previous evening, the Houthis had warned that if the US intervened in the war between Israel and Iran, they would once again target US ships in the Red Sea.
The attack represents the beginning, not the end, of a war, the Arabic news channel Al Jazeera reported, citing a senior member of the Houthi political bureau.
At the beginning of May, the Houthi militia had declared their willingness for a ceasefire with the US, provided that Washington also adhered to the agreement.
Since the outbreak of the Gaza war in October 2023, the Houthis have repeatedly attacked ships in the Red Sea with connections to Israel. They intended to stop this only when Israel ceases its attacks in the besieged coastal area.
