Pedestrian killed by hit-and-run driver during street race in South LA, police say 00:26

A pedestrian was killed by a hit-and-run driver who was involved in a street race in South Los Angeles on Saturday evening, according to police.

They say that two cars, a grey Dodge Charger and a dark colored Chevrolet Tahoe, were street racing southbound on Normandie Avenue and 66th Street at around 10 p.m. when the deadly collision occurred, according to a statement from the Los Angeles Police Department.

"The victim walking outside of the unmarked crosswalk ... was struck by the grey Dodge Charger," the LAPD statement said.

Instead of stopping to help the victim, only identified as a woman, they fled from the area.

The woman was pronounced dead after being rushed to a nearby hospital by paramedics with the Los Angeles Fire Department.

As with all deadly hit-and-run crashes in Los Angeles, a standing reward of up to $50,000 is offered for anyone who brings information forward that leads to the identification, arrest and conviction of the driver.

Anyone who may know more is asked to contact traffic officers at (213) 458-3472.
