MADRID, June 7 (Xinhua) -- Atletico Madrid faces a problem just a week before the start of its Club World Cup campaign, with news that central defender Clement Lenglet has suffered a hip injury.

The French international was scheduled to play for France against Germany in the UEFA Nations League third-place playoff but has been released from the squad due to the injury.

"Clement Lenglet had a medical test on Friday, June 6 for a hip injury," explained a communique from the French Football Federation (FFF), with Lenglet now set to return to Madrid to rejoin his club.

The Frenchman, who is on loan at Atletico from FC Barcelona, is now a doubt for at least the club's opening match in the Club World Cup.

Atletico opens the tournament against newly crowned UEFA Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain on June 15, followed by a second game against the Seattle Sounders five days later.

With Robin Le Normand not expected to return from international duty with Spain until Monday, and Jose Gimenez away with Uruguay until June 11, Lenglet's injury presents a challenge for Atletico coach Diego Simeone ahead of the new tournament.
