Every past actor has their own dedicated segment of fans, but few have the staunch fan base that Henry Cavill does. The British actor played Clark Kent in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel, and reprised the role in a handful of DCEU movies after his standalone film. Snyder fans are desperate for Henry Cavill to return as Superman in the future, but that seems highly unlikely as is now set to play the role in James Gunn's Superman. The movie releases on July 11, and the die-hard Snyder fans are becoming even more agitated at the lack of Man of Steel 2 updates and the idea of another actor replacing Henry Cavill as Superman. Unfortunately for them, Henry Cavill himself is more than open to Corenswet taking on the role.
David Corenswet spoke to Beat 102 on the red carpet to discuss his leading role in Gunn's Superman reboot, and he revealed that several past Kryptonians have wished him good luck for the new film. "I've had the pleasure of exchanging letters with two previous Supermen," the actor began. As well as Henry Cavill, Corenswet also spoke to Tyler Hoechlin, who played Clark Kent in CW's DC TV Universe. While both actors were supportive of the casting, they both gave the same piece of non-advice to the new DC star:
"Both of them, interestingly, sort of said in their own words, 'I'm not gonna try to give you any tips.' And I think that's a very Superman thing. Superman's not so much for giving advice or dictating how other people should be. They really just conveyed to me an encouragement and a sense of... have fun with it."
Both Henry Cavill's and Tyler Hoechlin's iterations of Superman are fan favorites. Man of Steel was divisive for a lot of reasons, but many agreed that Henry Cavill was perfectly cast as Superman. The CW DC-Verse had its fair share of problems, but Hoechlin's Superman was similarly one of the best parts, and was finally given the spotlight in his standalone series, Superman & Lois, which ended last December.
As Superman gears up for its theatrical release, it appears to only be the Snyder-cult who are adamantly against the film. The marketing has done an excellent job of conveying Superman's overwhelmingly bright and optimistic ideology, while also fleshing him out as a three-dimensional character, which has been sorely missing in past adaptations.
Alongside David Corenswet, Superman also stars Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. Gunn writes and directs the movie, as well as being co-president of DC Studios, alongside Peter Safran. Superman releases in theaters worldwide on July 11.
