Heavy rain forecast for Raichur, district on high alert | Hubballi News - Times of India
Raichur: Local administration has heightened vigilance in Raichur district, after IMD predicted heavy rainfall in the upcoming days. Deputy commissioner Nitish K, also heading the district disaster management authority, directed officials to implement preventive measures against potential heavy rainfall and flooding in the region.
He emphasised that officials at district, taluk, hobli, and gram panchayat levels must prepare for intense rain and floods. They are required to maintain their presence at designated locations and ensure that any adverse incidents are prevented.Authorities were directed to prevent activities like washing clothes near water bodies. Public must be warned against swimming, cattle grazing, or crossing precarious bridges."There is a risk of fatalities and injuries due to collapsing buildings. Public must implement safety measures and be prepared to relocate to safer areas. Tourists are advised to avoid swimming in rivers or streams and refrain from taking photos and videos at along riverbanks," the DC stated."Public announcements must be made in every village to avert any unfortunate incidents caused by heavy rains and flooding. A daily preliminary report detailing the damage due to heavy rain should be submitted to the district administration," he added.
Meanwhile, an Indian Army team led by Major Abhay Kumar and Sanjeev Sadhunawar inspected flood-prone villages in the district, as a precautionary measure following IMD's forecast of above-average rain in 2025.The team assessed Atkur, Kurvakarda, Kurvakala, D Rampur, Kadur, Gurjapur, Gurjapur bridge-cum-barrage in Raichur; Apral, Basavanthpur, Hirerayakumpi, Chikkarayakumpi, Google, Google bridge-cum-barrage in Devdurga taluk, and Shaktinagar helipad.
They reviewed the flood rescue equipment at Raichur fire department.
