Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann has revealed that will shift focus to the character of Abby, played by .
HBO’s The Last Of Us originally focussed on Joel and Ellie, played by Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, respectively. However, Season 2 saw a major shift in the narrative, and by the end of the season, it became clear that thing were switching perspective to Abby.
Speaking during the FYC panel on Monday evening, Druckmann had the following to say:
I can’t believe that they let us structure the series in this way, meaning like, we just ended Season 2, and Season 3 is going to be starring — spoiler alert — Kaitlyn.
Dever also joined the panel virtually and discussed her character, notably the fact Abby killed of Joel at the beginning of Season 2, which follows the character’s arc in the second video game.
I guess the controversy surrounding Abby was never really a concern for me, just given my first meeting with Craig and Neil and how wonderful they are and how talented they are. I’ve never felt so carried on a set in my life. I know we just watched Episode 2, doing that scene in the chalet… I was going through a lot personally, but it was one of the greatest experiences I’ve ever had as an actor, just because it really, really felt like such a team effort.
The Last of Us Season 3 was confirmed even before the second series premiered, and actress Isabela Merced later stated that production on the third season should begin in 2026.
