Gusau, Dikko, others storm Bayelsa for Prosperity Cup finals
High-profile dignitaries, including Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, National Sports Commission (NSC) Chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, NPFL Chairman, Gbenga Elegbeleye, and the Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service, Alhaji Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, are expected to witness the grand finale of this year’s edition of the yearly Bayelsa State-sponsored football tournament, nicknamed Prosperity Cup, at the Samson Siasia Sports Complex, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, today.
The event, which about N50m is up for grabs, will also have in attendance other sports personalities, including ex-internationals.
The director general of the organising committee, Kelvin Akpe, said this year’s final will see talents from communities showcase their brilliant football skills.
He said: “This substantial investment highlights the Prosperity Cup’s crucial role in fostering new talent, with many participants having already advanced to play for Bayelsa United, other NPFL clubs, and abroad.
“This year’s competition saw an impressive 231 teams from all local councils across the state battle it out in 224 matches held at 26 different centres. The women’s tournament was equally vibrant, featuring 20 teams, with Afini Ladies and Ezuogha Soccer Academy earning their spots in the final.”
