Gujarat likely to see above-normal monsoon

Ahmedabad: Gujarat's skies are likely to remain generous this monsoon. The India Meteorological Department's long-range forecast for 2025 predicts 106% rainfall for the central region of India, including Gujarat.

The state will receive normal to above-normal rainfall, with coastal and southern regions tipped for particularly high precipitation, predicts IMD.The map on the probability of rain issued by the IMD indicated chances of above normal rainfall in parts of coastal Saurashtra and some south Gujarat regions. Other regions are likely to receive normal to above normal rainfall in the rest of Gujarat.For June, the trend is similar, with chances of normal to above normal rain across Gujarat, but with chances of below normal rainfall in some patches of north Gujarat and Kutch.

The maximum temperature is likely to be normal to below normal, and the minimum temperature to be normal to above normal, as indicated by the forecast.On Tuesday, pre-monsoon showers hit several parts of the state, with Mahuva in Bhavnagar receiving 60mm of rain, Hansot in Bharuch 59mm, Netrang 44mm, and Bharuch city 42mm till 8pm. A total of 35 talukas recorded at least 1mm rainfall.Meanwhile, overcast skies kept Ahmedabad's day temperature at a pleasant 36.4°C — 5.5 degrees below normal — while the night temperature was 29.7°C, 1.5 degrees higher than normal.

Wednesday's forecast includes chances of heavy rainfall in districts like Dahod, Mahisagar, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dangs, Navsari, Valsad, Amreli, Bhavnagar, and Gir Somnath. Light to moderate thunderstorms may hit areas including Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar.
