Senate Speaker Amason Kingi has called for a special sitting on Monday for the hearing of the charges against Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo.

Kingi said the decision to call for the special sitting was made after a letter from the Speaker of the County Assembly of Isiolo, dated June 26, 2025, was received in the Office of the Speaker of the Senate on June 27, 2025.

Through the letter, the Speaker of the County Assembly of Isiolo informed the Speaker of the Senate of the approval of a Motion for the removal from office by impeachment of Governor Guyo.

"I have appointed Monday, June 30, 2025, as a day for a special sitting of the Senate. The sitting shall be held in the Senate Chamber, Main Parliament Buildings, Nairobi, commencing at 10.00 am," Kingi said.

Guyo was impeached on Thursday after the County Assembly passed a motion to remove him from office.

Sixteen out of 18 Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) voted in favour of the motion.

Two members were absent. No one opposed the motion.

Governor Guyo, according to the county assembly, did not appear before the Assembly to defend himself despite being formally invited.

His absence was recorded, and the session proceeded in line with Standing Orders.

The impeachment follows weeks of debate, public engagement, and legal consultations across the county’s ten wards.

The Senate will determine whether to uphold or overturn the impeachment.

The Isiolo County Assembly said the move reflected its commitment to accountability and the rule of law.

Sericho MCA Abubakar Godana tabled the notice of motion for the governor's impeachment.

To impeach Guyo, MCAs based their grounds on gross misconduct, violation of the Constitution and various laws, and abuse of office.
