The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu has announced a GH¢40 million seed funding package aimed at strengthening newly established public universities, in a major boost for the country’s higher education sector.

He said this initiative is a major boost for the country’s higher education sector.

He disclosed this during a keynote address at the 5th Congregation Ceremony of the C.K. Tedem University of Technology and Applied Sciences (CKT-UTAS) in the Upper East Region on June 21,2025.

Serving as the Special Guest of Honour, he said the funding will be disbursed through the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) as part of the 2025 budgetary provisions.

“This government is fully committed to nurturing our young public universities, ensuring they have the necessary resources to develop and provide quality education that meets the demands of our evolving economy. This seed funding through GETFund is a testament to that commitment”, he stated.

In a 3news report on June 22, 2025, the minister said GH¢40 million package will be shared equally among four key emerging institutions, with each receiving GH¢10 million to support infrastructure development, operational capacity, and academic initiatives.

The beneficiaries are: C.K. Tedem University of Technology and Applied Sciences (CKT-UTAS), University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), S.D. Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SD-UBIDS)

According to the Minister, the fund is intended to accelerate the growth and development of these institutions, enabling them to expand their infrastructure, enhance research output, and improve the overall learning environment.

He noted that the initiative is part of a broader government strategy to improve access to quality tertiary education and foster human capital development in critical sectors of the economy.

The announcement was received with enthusiastic applause from graduates, faculty, and dignitaries present at the event, highlighting the significance of the investment for the future of tertiary education in Ghana.
