The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) has officially welcomed Edward Abambire Bawa as its new Chief Executive Officer, ushering in a new era of leadership for the Corporation.

He takes over from Joseph Dadzie, who served as CEO until January 16, 2025.

In a statement, GNPC expressed its confidence in Mr Bawa's leadership, emphasising his extensive experience and strategic vision for the Corporation.

"Mr Bawa brings over two decades of experience in energy policy, management, and public service to the role," the statement highlighted.

His appointment marks a pivotal step in GNPC’s mission to solidify its role in Ghana’s energy sector and Africa’s energy transition.

Mr Bawa’s impressive academic and professional background positions him as a formidable leader. Currently pursuing a PhD in Global Energy Policy at EUCLID University, he also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the University of Cape Coast and an MBA in Finance from the University of Liverpool.

His past roles, including serving as a Member of Parliament for the Bongo Constituency from 2017 to 2025, have seen him "play a pivotal role in shaping energy legislation and policy," GNPC noted.

Prior to his appointment, Bawa also served on the Parliamentary Committees on Mines and Energy and Communications, making significant contributions to Ghana’s energy reforms.

"His experience includes work as a Communications Consultant for the World Bank Oil and Gas Capacity Building Project at the Ministry of Energy, where he spearheaded stakeholder engagement and public advocacy for critical energy initiatives," the statement said.

GNPC acknowledged Bawa’s vast technical expertise, highlighting his certifications in petroleum revenue management, upstream agreements, and energy commercialisation.

"His leadership extends beyond government, with technical and advisory roles on various energy committees and task forces," the Corporation added.

Looking ahead, GNPC stated that Mr Bawa is committed to "fostering operational efficiency, innovation, and sustainability to position GNPC as a key player in Ghana’s energy sector."

His vision for the Corporation includes strategic partnerships, workforce empowerment, and the adoption of cutting-edge technologies to drive measurable impact, it added.

GNPC assured all stakeholders of their continued engagement under Bawa’s leadership, stating, "While arrangements are being made for Mr Bawa to engage stakeholders in the coming weeks, we encourage all staff, partners, and stakeholders to extend their support and cooperation to him as he steers the Corporation toward greater achievements."

The Corporation concluded by extending best wishes to Edward Abambire Bawa, saying, "We are confident that his leadership will drive GNPC to new heights of success and impact in Ghana's energy landscape."
