Ghana's Mahama Appoints Batch of New Ambassadors and High Commissioners

President John Dramani Mahama has officially nominated 15 individuals for various key diplomatic roles, including Ambassadors, High Commissioners, and Consul-Generals, who will represent Ghana across the globe. These significant appointments, the first batch since President Mahama assumed office in January 2025, were formalized in a letter from the Office of the President dated June 10, 2025. The letter, signed by Dr. Callistus Mahama, Secretary to the President, confirms that these nominations followed thorough consultations with the Council of State, in strict adherence to Article 74 of the 1992 Constitution. All appointments are, however, subject to parliamentary approval, underscoring a strategic move by President Mahama to deploy a diverse blend of public personalities, experienced politicians, and technocrats to champion Ghana's interests internationally.

Among the prominent figures selected is veteran actress and former model Kalsoume Sinare, who has been nominated as Ghana's Ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain. Sinare, a well-known personality in Ghana's creative arts industry, has an extensive filmography of over fifty films, including notable works like 'Babina', 'Trinity', and 'Sala', for which she received a Golden Actress award in the Drama category. Her career began in modeling, representing Ghana at the 1990 Miss Model of the World pageant, before transitioning to acting in 1993. A vocal supporter of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sinare has publicly endorsed John Mahama in past elections. Interestingly, her nomination comes amidst reports that her cousin, Alhaji Said Sinare, a seasoned NDC stalwart and former Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, was also considered for a diplomatic role.

Kojo Bonsu, the former Metropolitan Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly from 2013 to 2016, has been nominated as Ghana's Ambassador to the People's Republic of China. Bonsu is a Ghanaian businessman, sports administrator, and politician, known for his active involvement with the National Democratic Congress and his strong campaigning efforts during the 2024 election cycle.

Another notable nominee is Nii Amasah Namoale, a seasoned politician and former Member of Parliament for La-Dadekotopon. He has been selected to serve as Ghana’s Ambassador to the Federative Republic of Brazil. Namoale, an agronomist by profession, had a significant tenure in Parliament from 2005 to 2017, during which he also held cabinet posts, including Deputy Minister of Agriculture. His extensive political experience and grassroots mobilization skills are anticipated to strengthen Ghana’s diplomatic ties with Latin America’s largest economy.

The comprehensive list of the 15 nominees and their assigned nations includes:
