Ghana's inflation drops to 18.4% in May as transport costs fall

Ghana’s inflation rate dropped sharply to 18.4% in May 2025, down from 21.2% in April. This is the lowest level seen since February 2022 and continues the country’s steady fall in inflation for the fifth month in a row.
The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) says the main reason for the drop is a decrease in transport fares, following lower fuel prices. There was also a slowdown in the prices of non-food items.
At a press briefing in Accra, Government Statistician Dr. Alhassan Iddrisu said the easing of fuel and transport prices has helped reduce pressure on household expenses. Although food prices are still high, they are also starting to go down.
Despite the national drop, inflation rates differ across regions. The Upper West Region recorded the highest inflation at 38.1%, mostly due to rising food and transport costs. The Ahafo Region had the lowest rate at 14.5%, showing more stable prices.
