Ghana Armed Forces to recruit 12,000 youth over the next four years - Defence minister
Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Minister of Defence
The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) is set to recruit 12,000 young Ghanaians over the next four years as part of a nationwide enlistment programme aimed at strengthening the country’s security and addressing youth unemployment.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, in a Facebook post on June 20, 2025.
According to Dr Boamah, the initiative has received approval from President John Dramani Mahama and forms part of a broader strategy to boost the military’s operational capacity while creating jobs for the youth.
“This nationwide exercise has been approved by President John Mahama. Get ready for a career of service and pride. Make sure you’re medically fit before applying, as the training is intense”, he stated.
He emphasised the physically demanding nature of military life and urged prospective applicants to prioritise their health before applying.
“I worked at the 37 Military Hospital for five years. People have died during military training. You’ll be expected to abandon all forms of normal life”, he cautioned.
