ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – Our sunshine returns with clouds on Friday, before the next slow moving frontal system gets to the Twin Tiers. Any rain clears out Friday morning as a surface high pressure system builds over the region. The warm air from Thursday will be a distant memory with the next push of colder air comes in. With that, expect periods of rain for the weekend.
Friday should be mostly dry with partly to mostly sunny skies. However, a cold front will be pushing through in the late afternoon and evening, with some isolated to scattered showers and cooler temperatures behind it.
Late Friday night brings an increase in clouds and showers push into the region early Saturday morning.
This weekend sees the next wave of low pressure ride along the stalled frontal boundary Saturday night into Sunday bringing in another period of rain mixed with some wet snow. Showers linger through much of the day Sunday with another quarter to three-quarters of an inch of rain for the area.
After that much colder weather moves in. Model guidance is in poor agreement with the overall details of several potential disturbances through the week. But they all agree that the next seven days will be cooler than average with potential for some wintry precipitation by next week.
