Gen-Z walianguka na mimi! Ex-CS Nakhumicha says on job loss

Former Health CS Susan Nakhumicha has detailed her life after President William Ruto reshuffled his Cabinet in June last year and axed some members including her.
Ruto took the drastic action at the height of Gen Z-led anti-government protests, which were sparked by outrage over the passage of the now impugned Finance Bill, 2024.
The President sent everyone packing except Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi before reconstituting the Cabinet with some new faces, including members of the opposition ODM party in the spirit of forming a unity government.
The Gen Z had taken the country by storm, holding protests across the country demanding far-reaching reforms including sacking Cabinet Secretaries.
Nakhumicha said that she got the news of her termination while watching TV.
Ruto said formation of the new-look Cabinet was ideal to promote unity among Kenyans.
Speaking in Kitale during the memorial service of former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairperson Wafula Chebukati, Nakhumicha said that she now concentrates on farming.
She said her focus is on farming and selling cabbages in Cheranganyi.
"Nilikuwa waziri wa afya hii mitandao ikakuja, wakasema ma Gen Z wanaanguka na watu, wakaanguka na mimi," she said.
(I was Health CS and people on the internet were saying the Gen Z were falling with people; they fell with me)
"Bishop amehubiri hapa akasema wakati wa Rais Moi ilikuwa matangazo kwa redio hii nayo yetu haikuwa ya redio. Ilikuwa kwa TV unangojea, nikaskia cabinet yote iende nyumbani, nikaona watu wamefurahi kila mahali," Nakhumicha added.
(The bishop has preached saying during President Moi's time people got sacked on radio but ours was not on radio. It was on TV then I heard the entire Cabinet has been sent home, people were jubilant everywhere)
"Tangu siku hiyo mimi nimemtazamia Mungu, hata sasa mimi nafanya ukulima, sina kazi. Napanda na kuuza cabbage huko Cherenganyi."
(Since that day I have been waiting on God, I'm now a farmer, I have no job. I grow and sell cabbages)
In June 2024, Ruto said the dismissal of the Cabinet would enhance efficiency, effectiveness, transparency and accountability in public service delivery.
This, he said, would be realised in the realignment of the government whose lineup he said would have the face of the country.
