Gas turbine leaders meet in Abuja to push Africa's power revolution
Industry leaders, engineers, policymakers, and energy experts will converge in Abuja next week for the Annual Gas Turbine Asset Management Conference 2025.
The event is focused on transforming Africa’s power sector through innovation in gas turbine technology and asset management.
Organised by Thomassen Energy and PE Energy, the conference will take place on 23–24 June 2025 at the Continental Hotel, Abuja, under the theme “Unleashing Value: Innovative Asset Strategies for a Resilient African Economy.”
The organisers said in a release that the two-day event aims to tackle the urgent need for sustainable and efficient power solutions across the continent.
With power demand on the rise and turbine fleets ageing, industry experts emphasise the importance of optimising and extending the life of existing infrastructure, rather than focusing solely on new builds.
Chairman and Group CEO of PANA Holdings, Dr. Daere Akobo, expressed belief in the future of Africa’s power, stressing that while building new assets is critical, there is a need to unlock the full value of the ones the continent already has.
Akobo said the conference is a collective call to action to upgrade, innovate, and empower a continent ready to lead.
Delegates will explore a wide range of strategies, from improving turbine performance and accelerating digital adoption to developing local technical capacity and advancing predictive maintenance. Discussions will also cover the relocation and rehabilitation of gas turbine assets, operational flexibility in an evolving grid environment, and Africa’s path towards cleaner energy.
CEO of Thomassen Energy, Peter Stuttaford, said: “Asset management is no longer a back-office function; it is the frontline of Africa’s energy transformation. Together with our partners, PE Energy, we are here to drive solutions that extend turbine life, localise expertise, and power a future that is both sustainable and self-reliant.”
The conference will feature panel sessions, expert-led discussions, and hands-on technical training aimed at equipping engineers, operators, and energy professionals with the skills needed to manage and modernise gas turbine infrastructure effectively.
Organisers say the event will culminate in a strategic roadmap to improve asset management practices across the continent. More than just a technical gathering, the conference is positioned as a platform for collaboration, innovation, and lasting change.
