Gadkari’s chopper diverted to Gaya due to poor visibility in Ranchi

Gaya: Union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari's helicopter was diverted to Gaya airport on Thursday afternoon after it was denied landing clearance at Ranchi due to poor visibility caused by heavy rain and dense cloud cover."The helicopter of the minister landed at Gaya airport around 4pm," said Gaya airport director Bangjeet Saha. "A special aircraft was requisitioned from Ranchi, from which the minister took off for Ranchi around 5.30pm. It was just a case of route diversion and not an emergency landing, as visibility in Ranchi airspace had dropped significantly," he added.Gadkari was on way to Ranchi after attending a programme in Garhwa, Jharkhand, where he was scheduled to inaugurate the Ratu Road flyover.BJP's Gaya district vice-president Yugesh Kumar said, "From a security point of view, information about the minister's helicopter landing in Gaya was kept confidential. Even party functionaries in Gaya came to know only after he had already departed for Ranchi in the special aircraft."
