Wekesa made headlines after claiming that he was the Messiah and even had 12 disciples like the Biblical Jesus.

However, it seems like the preacher, going by the moniker Yesu wa Tongaren (Jesus from Tongaren), is struggling financially despite all the power he claims to possess.

The first hint dropped in 2024 when he sought government intervention for his unemployed children.

The family's matriarch, Prophet Benjamin, appealed to the president while inviting him to Bungoma, where he presided over Madaraka Day celebrations.

Prophet Benjamin said two of her children went to school but had not found employment.

“He will have saved us from poverty. 'Jesus' has taken his children to school but they have not been lucky to find a job," said Benjamin.

A new photo has surfaced showing the preacher sitting while filling out forms.

The image shared on Instagram by radio presenter Gidi Gidi showed the religious leader wearing his signature outfit.

Wekesa looked at the camera, slightly smiling.

There were lots of papers on the tables as he sat across from a woman. She was engrossed perusing through a sheaf of papers.

According to Gidi, Wekesa was looking for financial assistance to pay fees for his children.

“Humbling moments as Yesu wa Tongaren goes to process bursary forms for his children,” he wrote.

However, TUKO.co.ke could not independently verify whether the preacher was filling out bursary forms.

The photo amused many social media users, who reacted by saying:

Jesseosundwa:

“Hahahahaaha.”

David Salano:

“The world is full of wonders.”

Eddie Gordon:

“So ‘Jesus’ is seeking help to clear fees balance?”

Sam Nyoware:

"So he can't perform a miracle?"

Fredrick Okwiri:

"Very good he lives by his means and not burdening followers."

Wekesa was previously arrested and charged with radicalisation, money laundering, acquisition, possession or use of proceeds of crime and managing an unlawful society.

He was also accused of writing or uttering words with intent to wound religious feelings, contrary to Section 138 of the Penal Code.

The police have also questioned his decision to abandon his birth name to Yesu Wa Tongaren, arguing that it was unlawful.

Shortly after, he received a scholarship to join a theology school to learn more about the true Jesus.

The scholarship to be offered by Angaza Bible College will also enable him to undertake his religious activities lawfully.

According to the college's vice chancellor Kennedy Ananswa Musee, Yesu Wa Tongaren needed to be educated about theology, be certified, and register his church as per Kenyan law.

Musee said Yesu wa Tongaren allowed them to see his Bible.
