Former Reps chief whip dumps PDP

Published 1 day ago2 minute read

Former Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, Barrister Ishaka Bawa, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing deepening crises within the party as his reason for leaving.

Bawa, who represented Ibi/Wukari Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, announced his resignation in a letter dated July 2, 2025, and addressed to the PDP state chairman.

He explained that his decision followed extensive consultations with his family, political associates, as well as his ward and constituency.

“I cannot continue to be on board while watching helplessly as the party sinks like the Titanic of 1912,” Bawa declared in his letter.

His resignation comes barely a day after the PDP state chairman, Abubakar Bawa, threatened disciplinary action against any party member found sympathising with the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

While Barrister Bawa did not explicitly state his next political move in the resignation letter, sources suggest he is considering joining the ADC.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that several prominent politicians from both the PDP and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state are also weighing defection to the ADC.

A chieftain from one of the parties, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said many politicians are preparing to align with the ADC, partly influenced by the involvement of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
