Forecasters are getting this one right as it concerns a heat wave now smothering much of the Nation, Wisconsin, and Sheboygan County. The widespread dome of hot air has been emplaced, and a Heat Advisory for possible triple-digit heat indices was issued from Noon on Saturday until 7 PM Monday.
NWS Graphic
While Sheboygan and Ozaukee Counties fare the best of all, with feels-like temperatures mostly in the 90s, most other counties as far north as Green Bay and the Fox Valley are likely to experience a heat index in the 100-105 degree range. In Milwaukee, Racine and Kenosha Counties, an Extreme Heat Warning was issued for fells-like temperatures of 105-110.
While nighttime temperatures will cool, they do so only to the low-mid 70s until Tuesday when a cool front provides some relief, even if temporary, as 80s return quickly next week.
Until conditions improve, people should limit outdoor activity, stay hydrated, and check up on those who don’t have air conditioning. If you need to cool off, it’s recommended to go to a shopping mall, library or other public place. And finally, NEVER leave pets or children unattended in a closed vehicle, as deadly temperatures develop in a very short time in the current conditions, and check to be sure a vehicle is empty before locking it up.
