Getty ImagesIt’s rare to not see the name “Foo Fighters” on the Billboard charts. The band is almost always present on one list or another, and usually several at once. Last week, the rockers were missing from seemingly every tally…but such an absence means the comeback can be that much more impressive.
The Foo Fighters return to the Billboard rankings this frame. The band blasts back onto four tallies at the same time with one collection, which has become a go-to for countless fans as they look to buy—or, most likely, stream—the group’s biggest hits.
The Essential Foo Fighters enters the top 10 on one of the four rosters it reappears on. The compilation is back at No. 9 on the Top Hard Rock Albums chart, which is also where the singles-packed project has climbed highest. The band almost conquered that tally with the set when it was new, but instead, it stalled in second place.
The same compilation also finds a home on two other genre-specific rosters in the U.S. The Essential Foo Fighters re-enters the Top Alternative Albums chart at No. 24, and it’s back on the Top Rock & Alternative Albums list at No. 41.
The Essential Foo Fighters also appears on the Billboard 200 again. On the most competitive of all of Billboard’s albums tallies, which tracks the most-consumed projects of all styles, the Foo Fighters sit at No. 185, as the compilation reaches 26 weeks, or half a year, on the ranking.
Luminate reports that during the most recent completed tracking frame in America, The Essential Foo Fighters moved 7,800 equivalent units. Fewer than 500 of those were actual sales, and the rest are almost entirely made up of plays on streaming platforms.
The Foo Fighters released The Essential Foo Fighters in 2022, and it marked the band’s first proper compilation since 2009’s Greatest Hits. That set peaked at No. 11, but the follow-up, which featured quite a bit of music that had been shared by the group in the decade-plus since the first offering dropped, only rose as high as No. 42 on the Billboard 200. They mark the only two traditional singles collections from the band.
