As part of efforts targeted at catching them young, Digital Equity Africa has concluded plans to host the first Artificial Intelligence (AI) Summit for Children in Africa, targeting 100,000 children in Nigeria.

This gathering marks Africa’s first child-centred global AI conference, giving children the opportunity not just to consume technology, but to create with it.

According to the conveners, Abuja, Kano, and Enugu will be hosts to the conference series for 2025, as the event first goes live in Lagos.

The Lagos Kids Tech Fest 2025, themed ‘Generation AI: Shaping the Future, One Mind at a Time,’ aims to introduce children aged six to 16 to the world of AI through specially curated sessions, hands-on activities, immersive learning, and interactive exhibitions.

Convener of Kids Tech Fest, Justina Nnam Oha, said: “This is more than a conference, it is a national movement.

“We are setting the stage for African children to not only understand emerging technologies like AI but also take ownership of them. From Lagos to Kano, we are democratising access to tech education for all,” he said.

There will also be dedicated speakers and workshops for parents, which will address parenting in an AI world, cyber safety, learning resources, career guidance, and IT curriculum for schools.

Digital Equity Africa will also go live with an AI Learning Community, which targets 100,000 Nigerian Children in its first year. Accordingly, this community will provide children with ongoing mentorship, access to digital learning tools, among others.
