FIR Ordered Against MP Minister for Remarks on Col Sofia Qureshi

Following Operation Sindoor, Colonel Sofiya Qureshi has been at the center of attention, both positively and negatively. After Col Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh briefed the nation on the military operation against terrorists, Col Qureshi's family faced both praise and misinformation.

In Belagavi, Karnataka, police increased security at the residence of Col Qureshi’s father-in-law, Ghaus Bagewadi, after a misleading social media post falsely claimed the house was attacked and demolished. SP Bhimashankar Guled stated that the post on X was spotted by the district police team, and after the monitoring cell identified it as false, the user deleted it. The user, identified as Anis Hudeen, reportedly living in Canada, was reported to the social media platform. Guled emphasized that stringent action would be taken against those spreading misinformation that could disturb public harmony.

Ghaus Bagewadi confirmed that their house was not attacked and that the social media post was entirely false. He expressed immense pride in Col Qureshi, noting that their phones have been constantly ringing with congratulatory messages.

In a separate incident, the Madhya Pradesh High Court ordered the registration of an FIR against state minister Vijay Shah for his controversial remarks seemingly directed at Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, whom he tried to project as a "sister of terrorists." The court took suo motu cognizance of the statement and directed the police to file the FIR promptly. The division bench of Justices Atul Shridharan and Anuradha Shukla scheduled a hearing for further proceedings.

Shah's remarks drew widespread condemnation, with Congress demanding his immediate dismissal. Under pressure, Shah offered an apology if his statement had hurt anyone, stating that he respects Colonel Qureshi more than his sister.
