Final Destination's Bloody Chaos Secretly Owes Everything To Disney Channel

Published 9 hours ago4 minute read

Final Destination is back with another film, which is already a hit among the critics. Considered the best film in the franchise, Final Destination Bloodlines is directed by Adam Stein and Zach Lipovsky. The directors appeared for an interview and shared that the show took elements of inspiration from one of the most unlikely places.

The directors previously worked on the Disney film, Kim Possible, which was very different from their current gory thriller. Lipovsky also revealed that he worked as a child artist in the Disney Channel original movies. He shared that they brought the same Disney energy into this R-rated film.

The sixth entry in the Final Destination had a big task as it came 14 long years after the previous film. Bloodlines had to basically restart a franchise and bring it to its former glory among the audiences. According to reports, the film is successful in that aspect and all credits go to those who worked behind the scenes.

The film was written by Guy Basick and Lori Evans Taylor. Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts gets credit for the story of the film. The directing duo, Adam Stein and Zach Lipovsky, earlier worked on many Disney projects before progressing to direct the sci-fi thriller, Freaks.

Their Disney portfolio also included the live-action film, Kim Possible. Lipovsky also appeared in many Disney projects as a child actor including, the family-friendly horror film Goosebumps and So Weird. Interestingly, Lipovsky shared during an interview with SlashFilm that he took inspiration from his experience working on the Disney original movie, Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century.

He shared that he loved the adventurous feeling in those films, adding that the Disney space allowed him to introduce improv and try new things on set. He shared:

I was in Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century, which, a lot of people love that movie! We took a lot from that experience. We love just the feeling of adventure, and we did a lot of that in that Disney space. We also — the way that we like to work kind of evolved through that process.

When we were working with a lot of kids, we developed this process of getting what was written, but then also bringing improv into it, and making sure to try new things on set, because that’s often what would bring kids’ performances to life.

Lipovsky shared that when he went on to make the “R-rated, gory craziness”, he brought the Disney energy. He shared, “We’ve still brought that type of energy, of getting what we all wrote down but then giving the cast a chance to try new things in the moment.” This is a connection that most viewers would’ve hardly guessed.

Adam Stein and Zach Lipovsky knew they had to impress the producers with their creative ideas for the Final Destination IP. Rather than telling these ideas during their pitch, the directing duo thought it would be great if they demonstrated them. Their pitch happened via Zoom with the producers and New Line execs (via THR).

They presented their pitch in front of a burning fireplace. As they were wrapping up their meeting, the fire grew out of control. The filmmakers quickly extinguished the fire. Just when the producers thought the danger was avoided, a ceiling fan came flying down and decapitated one of the filmmakers.

Only after the jump scare, did the producers realize that the directing duo put together the bit, using some pre-recorded footage and visual effects. They had quite the laugh, and needless to say, they were impressed with Stein and Lipovsky.
