A dedicated group of volunteers  at the weekend brought their monthly outreach, Feed the Community, to Oshodi Market, one of Lagos State’s busiest commercial centers.

The team, known for their vibrant costumes and lively street presence, served more than just meals; they delivered compassion, unity, and a reminder that kindness still thrives.

As part of their One Meal a Day campaign, the volunteers distributed freshly prepared food and drinks to hundreds of residents, traders, commuters, and passersby, free of charge.

The initiative, which holds similar outreach events every month, has become a beacon of hope for many facing daily food insecurity.

The team, led by Blessing Oke, popularly known as Ocare the Everyday Hero, donned superhero-themed outfits as a creative way to engage with the public and reinforce their message: heroism lies in helping others.

“We want to be remembered not just as people who fed the community, but as those who brought hope,” said Ocare. Dressed in her signature red and black costume, she led the team through the market, laughing and dancing with locals while encouraging them to enjoy the free meals.

Claire AI, another volunteer who portrayed a friendly artificial intelligence robot, echoed the importance of community care.

“Sometimes crowd control is tough and people don’t understand our mission immediately, but we’re trained to handle it. We are here to serve.”

Other team members, Lady Veee, Legend, and Dorathy, ass BB miî I’malso took on symbolic characters, engaging warmly with children, market women, and the elderly.

“This is more than just feeding people,” said Lady Veee. “It’s about putting smiles on faces, especially now that so many Nigerians are struggling to afford one full meal a day.”

The initiative, which is currently self-funded, is seeking collaborations, sponsorships, and partnerships to expand its reach.

Claire AI mentioned plans to increase the frequency of the program from monthly to weekly or even daily, should adequate support be secured.

The impact is already visible. “People are fed, they’re happy, and they’re praying for us,” said Alloysius Etim, aka Legend. “That’s what community service is about.”

Beyond food distribution, the Feed the Community program is part of a broader mission led by Ocare Foundation.

The foundation also engages in other outreach activities such as empowering small businesses, supporting families financially, and distributing gifts to children in local playgrounds.

“This is just one arm of what we do,” explained Ocare. “Our aim is to support the underserved in every possible way, and we hope that more people and brands will join us in this mission.”

Her red-and-black costume symbolizes the courage of ordinary people who choose to do extraordinary things.
