FC Barcelona has reached a transfer agreement with La Liga rival Real Betis according to Mundo Deportivo, which cited anonymous sources.

The Catalans and Andalusians have done several deals with one another in past seasons, for players including Ez Abde and Chadi Riad.

While Abde still plies his trade at the Estadio Benito Villamarin, Chadi Riad was sold on to Premier League outfit Crystal Palace in the summer.

Palace was reported to have paid $16 million (€15 million) for the Spanish 20-year-old of Moroccan descent, with SPORT reporting that the Blaugrana would pocket around $8.4 million (€8 million) of that amount.

Betis also ended up providing a refuge to Vitor Roque, who joined Barca from Athletico Paranaense as part of a deal potentially worth over $30 million at the turn of 2024.

The two clubs agreed that he would spend 2024/2025 on loan in Seville, with the option of extending the temporary arrangement for another year.

Since then, however, Sao Paulo giant Palmeiras has registered strong interest in acquiring 80% of the Brazilian’s rights for $26.2 million (€25 million) plus a further $5.2 million (€5 million) in variables.

Given its precarious financial predicament, Barca would probably accept the offer right away if it was merely a deal between two parties.

It needs to get permission from Betis to break Vitor Roque’s loan deal, however, but has acquired that according to Mundo Deportivo.

Betis won’t give the green light to its number 8’s departure for nothing, though, and wants a further 30% of Ez Abde’s rights which will be granted.

When the winger switched allegiances in 2023, Barca and Betis agreed a 50-50 split with the latter party now set to get the lion’s share of the money if the Morocco international is moved on thanks to the Vitor Roque operation.

Amid ESPN reporting that FIFA has greenlit Palmeiras buying him, Vitor Roque could have already played his last game for Betis and made his final appearance in Spain for now.

Given he is still just 19 years old, there’s nothing stopping the ‘Little Tiger’ from returning to Europe one day if he gets a once-promising career back on track at Allianz Parque.
