Favourites to become new Notts County manager after sacking Stuart Maynard - Fan Banter

Published 1 month ago5 minute read

The Magpies get rid of their head coach after 16 months in charge, following a failure to secure promotion from League Two.

The decision came five days after a playoff semi-final loss to AFC Wimbledon, who will this weekend take on Walsall for a place in League One.

Despite Maynard’s confidence in retaining his position, the team’s poor performance, with only one win in their last eight games, including a critical loss to Doncaster Rovers, led to their sixth-place finish and his dismissal, as stated by owners Chris and Alex Reedtz.

CLUB STATEMENT:

We have parted company with our head coach, Stuart Maynard.

A statement from our owners, Chris and Alex Reedtz, reads: “After being unable to achieve our aim of winning promotion this season, we share the disappointment felt by everyone connected with the club.

“While football is a game of fine margins, and Stuart undoubtedly faced numerous challenges over the course of the campaign, neither results nor performances reached the levels we believe the team was capable of – particularly during the defining period towards the end.

“Stuart leaves with our very best wishes and gratitude for his considerable commitment and dedication to the role.

“In the near future we will provide a comprehensive update to supporters, offering more of our own reflections on the 2024-25 campaign while also outlining our approach to next season and beyond.

“Alongside our recently-appointed Head of Football, Roberto Gagliardi, our work is well underway to identify the correct coaching team and new signings to join us on these important next steps of our journey.

“We are highly optimistic about the club’s future and remain as committed as ever to helping Notts County achieve its immense potential.”

: Huge shame, but you can’t say it wasn’t a big question to be answered after the abject home form towards the end of the season. Thank you Stu, onwards we go. COYP

: Very best of luck Stuart, I was routing for you to take Notts up. I really felt you were dealt a bad hand. Your club captain Macca sold from underneath you. Also Losing Nemane, Crowley & awful injury crisis. The odds were certainly not in your favour. really best of luck 🖤🤍

: I refused to publicly call for this as it’s never nice to see someone lose their job but this is 100% the Correct decision & will stop us stagnating as a club, I’ve no doubt Stuart did his best for Notts County so would like to thank him for his efforts. Onwards & Upwards! 🖤🤍

: Just wasn’t meant to be for Maynard in the end. Gutted. We had massive improvements from the previous season. It was tough when we didn’t do well in play offs. Will be interesting to see who we bring in now

: Unbelievably nice bloke- good gaffer but out his depth at notts- wish him all the best for the future. Some size bollocks on the owners to do this- shows their plans are genuine and they can see there’s no progression. Roll on next season- season tickets / attendances will rise

: Nice bloke. Shame it didn’t work out. We wish him well but ultimately the right choice by the club. We move on.

Assistant managers
Still managed to guide us to the playoffs, but ultimately fell short, and lacked a Plan B.
Thank you and hope SM has better luck in his next job.

: I believe, on judgement, this was inevitable. Results this season have been inconsistent & we’ve missed an opportunity to progress. I don’t like to see messages that border on hate, the man tried his best each week and no matter your thoughts on displays he didn’t deserve abuse

: nice bloke, wanted to see him do well, was never going to work. Thanks for the efforts

: We are literally a European pre season away day from turning this right round!!

: Best of luck stu, right decision on our front though. Time for a big appointment

: It’s going to be so refreshing for us to back the new manager with a clean slate. Whoever comes in will get a fair crack at the whip and full support from the fans. GLORIOUS!

: Thank fuck for that

: Great guy and a decent coach. Feel the club could have supported him better with the coaching team when the Saunders left and injuries did impact but unfortunately it’s all about results and they dropped off massively after Christmas. All the best Stu!

: Thanks for your efforts Stuart but unfortunately it just wasn’t to be – Time to rebuild and go again, exciting times 🖤🤍

@theboygosling: Wish Stuart nothing but the best, he gave up a very comfortable life to be with us and have no doubt he put all his efforts in. Now it’s time to find a Head Coach who has a big club mentality
