Favour Onoh recruited by OSU Cowgirls to play in US NCAA

The University of the Philippines (UP) basketball program is excelling, with its women's team now fostering talent that merits international opportunities. Favour Onoh, the UAAP Season 86 Rookie of the Year, is transferring to Oklahoma State University (OSU) to play for the Cowgirls in the US NCAA. Onoh stated, "I would not be able to have this kind of opportunity without UP and the skills I learned not just in basketball, but also in life. I believe OSU will allow me to develop more. Aside from giving good education just like UP, it will also give me a better opportunity to play professionally."
The 6-foot-4 Nigerian player made a significant impact in her first year at UP in 2023, averaging 11.0 points, 14.9 rebounds, 2.9 blocks, 1.4 steals, and 1.4 assists per game. Her contributions, alongside Louna Ozar, helped the team secure their first playoff berth since 2008. Onoh was also considered for naturalization by Gilas Pilipinas Women.
After suffering knee injuries in the offseason and sitting out Season 87 to recover, Onoh confirms that her knees are now fully healed. "I'm super excited to play in the NCAA because it will help me gain experience and knowledge. It's one step to my goal of playing professionally," she said. The 19-year-old is scheduled to arrive in Stillwater, Oklahoma, on June 2 to begin training with the Cowgirls for the Big 12 Tournament later in the year.
UP is proud to see another of its student-athletes competing internationally. Office for Athletics and Sports Development Director Bo Perasol commented, "We are all proud of Favour and we will all continue supporting her. At the same time, nakakabilib na in just a few years, may ganitong talent nang na-produce ang (women's team) natin."
Onoh joins Javi and Juan Gomez de Liano, Carl Tamayo, JD Cagulangan, and Francis Lopez as former Fighting Maroons playing internationally.
