Abu Dhabi: H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, known as the ‘Mother of the Nation’, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, has extended her congratulations to Sheikha Nasser Al Nowais on her election as the Secretary-General of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation.
According to Emirates News Agency, Sheikha Fatima emphasized that this achievement is a testament to the UAE leadership’s vision in supporting and empowering Emirati women. This vision, initiated by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and continued by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, has established an approach that enhances women’s capabilities and enables their advancement on international platforms.

Sheikha Fatima noted that Sheikha Al Nowais’s election as the first woman to hold this position is a significant milestone in the UAE’s journey of achievements. The UNWTO announced that Al Nowais will commence her term in January 2026, with her nomination subject to approval by the UN Tourism General Assembly. This represents a landmark as the first woman leader of UN Tourism in its 50-year history.
Al Nowais, a business leader with over 16 years of experience in global hospitality, serves as Corporate Vice President at Rotana Hotels and chairs the Abu Dhabi Chamber’s Tourism Working Group. She also holds board positions at the Abu Dhabi Businesswomen Council and Les Roches Hospitality Academy.
