Bollywood’s well-known choreographer Farah Khan recently revisited an old casting decision regarding the iconic song ‘Chaiyya Chaiyya’ from the film
Dil Se
. In one of her vlogs, she openly admitted to rejecting actress Shilpa Shirodkar for the song due to her weight. The comment sparked reactions online, prompting
Farah
to address the topic once again by filming a new vlog with Shilpa, where the two had a lighthearted discussion about the incident.
The latest vlog captures Farah, accompanied by her cook Dilip, as they visit Shilpa’s home. While appreciating Shilpa’s appearance, the actress brought up Farah’s previous remark about her weight. She reminded Farah of her statement about Shilpa being overweight and questioned how she would have managed to stand on the train. Farah then added that if Shilpa had done the role, Shah Rukh Khan would have had no space to stand on the train. Both shared a laugh over the comment, and Farah assured her that if a sequel to 'Chaiyya Chaiyya' were ever made, she would cast her. “I will be on the train, and there will be dancers and Shah Rukh,” Shilpa joked.

Farah also reminisced about Shilpa’s popularity in the 1990s, particularly for her rain songs. She mentioned how it was an ongoing joke that Shilpa would always have a rain machine and a water tanker wherever she went. However, Farah also acknowledged that rejecting Shilpa made her feel guilty, especially when she realised how much it had impacted the actress. Shilpa recalled that Farah had given her 15 days to work on her fitness before finalising the casting. “Then you did come and you said, ‘It doesn’t look like there is much difference’,” Shilpa recounted.
Shilpa also addressed this matter separately in an interview with Siddharth Kannan. She revealed that she did not get the role because she was considered overweight. The actress added that she would always feel bad for not getting to perform 'Chaiyya Chaiyya', but she believes God has given her much more in life.
