Fantastic Four vs David Corenswet's Superman: MCU Is Already Losing this Battle at Box Office
Fans had been waiting for this day. People had been dreaming of this day. Zack Snyder would have loved to be a part of it. This day was written down in prophecies forgotten in the tale of time. That day might finally be nearer than we think.
A DC movie will potentially outscore a highly anticipated Marvel movie in the near future. That was the prophecy that people refused to believe. However, the projected opening collection for The Fantastic Four: First Steps and David Corenswet’s Superman is here. Marvel… might lose.
If you had talked about this back in 2015, nobody would have believed you and probably would have called you a maniac for thinking that DC could beat peak MCU. With the ongoing debate between the MCU and the DCU, it seems that a clear winner might soon be announced.

Don’t get me wrong. My opinions aren’t swayed by my personal interests between the MCU and the DCU. However, it does feel like the underdog is about to defeat the big, bad bully champion in a movie.
The DCEU had been struggling for years to beat the MCU in terms of number, movie quality, fan interaction, their tone, and just everything in general. It was in 2022 when James Gunn took up the reins and became the co-head of DC Studios alongside Peter Safran.
His first official work? Superman: Legacy (later renamed Superman). His choice for Superman? David Corenswet. Gunn was able to create hype around this character (who has been recast and rebooted countless times) through his tone, sheer will, and everything that he had learned in Hollywood over all these years.
Although recasting a star like Henry Cavill was a bold choice that could have backfired massively, Gunn took the risk. Creating the film with all his love and humor, the trailer for Superman changed everything as even Marvel fans praised the upcoming movie for looking too damn good.
Well, it seems that the unthinkable is about to happen as the projected score for both movies has been revealed to the world, and the DCU might just be winning this one.
Starring David Corenswet in the lead role, James Gunn’s Superman is nearing its flight. On the other hand, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, with an impressive cast of Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Ralph Ineson, and more, is a little further away from the DCU flick.

Despite the impressive star cast, it has been alleged that The Fantastic Four: First Steps is looking for a domestic opening of $125 – $136 million in its opening weekend (via Box Office Theory). It is quite a high number, which might break some records.
Their competitor, James Gunn’s Superman, has been prophesied (alleged) by notable insider Jeff Sneider (via CBR) to earn a high figure of $175 million in its opening weekend!
That is roughly $39 million higher than The Fantastic Four: First Steps! If the projected score does become a reality, it will be a record-breaking event in the history of the debate between Marvel and DC.
Only time can tell whether this prophecy will become true or will the history of DC characters will continue to live under the shadow of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
, The Fantastic Four: First Steps is slated for a release date of 25 July 2025 in theaters (USA).
