Twenty-nine days after a Senior Secondary two (SS2) student, Ahmed Musa was brutally killed in Government Technical College, Malali, Kaduna, the deceased’s family, yesterday threatened to sue the State Government for justice and adequate compensation.
The family in a statement jointly signed by the deceased’s father, Comrade Musa Mohammed of the Moonlight Newspaper, and other family members, noted that the incident was a “reflection of how insecure and unsafe” Nigeria has become for young people striving for a better future.
The family demanded “an expedited, transparent, and decisive legal process” to ensure justice is served, warning that they “will resist any attempt at political interference or compromise.”
They, among other demands, called on the state government to acknowledge that students are no longer safe in their communities, a formal apology from the Kaduna State Government, and comprehensive compensation for the family.
According to the family, if young people can be killed in such gruesome circumstances, what hope is left for the future of Nigeria? “We demand N560 million, as compensation from the Kaduna State government,” they declared.
Muhammed further remarked: “We think the time has come for the Kaduna State Government and all who are on the side of humanity to respond to the cry for remediation of the family and relations of the deceased student. That is why we will go to court.
“Also, we warn Kaduna State government, that if they don’t meet up with our demands, we will be forced to mobilise the full strength of the masses movement across the state.
“This is about the fundamental right to life that every Nigerian student deserves. We will not sit idle while students are hunted and butchered,” he stressed.
The father had in an earlier petition dated February 24, which was addressed to the Governor of Kaduna state, Uba Sani through the commissioner of education, appealed for comprehensive investigation to uncover those behind their son’s death, pointing out that “whoever is found to have a hand in the death of our son should be punished accordingly.”
They also demanded from Kaduna State government adequate compensation for negligence being the custodian of the deceased.
Meanwhile, the Chief Magistrate’s court of Kabala Doki in Kaduna State has adjourned to April 17, the murder case, against four Kaduna State Vigilance Service (KADVIS) personnel on charges of criminal conspiracy and negligence, which caused the death of Musa.
The matter was adjourned following the absence of the prosecutor and the witness in the court.
