The story spread like wildfire online sparking instant comparisons on whether Thiago was destined to follow in the footsteps of his father.
Thiago is the eldest son of eight-time Ballon d'Or winner Messi and his wife Antonella Roccuzzo. He is 12 years old.
However, TUKO.co.ke has done some deep dive on the reports and there doesn't seem to be a lot of evidence to back it up.
For starters, there is no mention of the game on Major League Soccer's official channels as the MLS Cup is not a real competition. Thiago's Inter Miami U-13 play in the MLS Next where the schedule also doesn't indicate when the two sides played each other or when they will in the near future.
Both Inter Miami's and MLS' social media handles are also silent on the 'news'. Surely, they would have both jumped at the opportunity to praise the son of their biggest-ever player for achieving such an imperious feat, no?
The club's accounts dedicated to their academy players and performances also made no mention of the game.
Messi's wife who is a regular at Thiago's games, also didn't share any information or videos from the said game.
Additionally, renowned Guillem Balagué, who has written biographies on Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Pep Guardiola, debunked the claims.
"This is #FAKE, my friends. Not true that Thiago scored 11 goals in a game."
No. For such an astonishing achievement - his age group notwithstanding - there has to be undeniable evidence to prove it happened. The deafening silence from Inter Miami's official channels is proof enough.
Scoring 11 goals is a huge thing for anyone, but when the son or arguably the greatest footballer to ever exist scores 11 goals in one game, it becomes beyond huge that everyone associated with him would want to tell the world.
TUKO.co.ke has also reported on Messi addressing the GOAT debate between him and Cristiano Ronaldo.
The comments resurfaced after Ronaldo boldly declared himself the best player ever.
