Their win came at the back of one of the event's favourites Echoes of War, by Butere Girls High School withdrew from the event after refusing to perform and walking off stage.

Despite this, the show had to go on, and Moi High Mbiruri showed that they were ready to concur with their impressive play, Classmate.

The winning piece is centred around high school friends who meet up years after school with each one of them leading different lives.

It focuses on three main acts: Kasmuel, Muhujia and Mafia, who were classmates during their days in school.

Back then, Kasmuel was a top student but never balanced his academics with extracurricular activities.

Mafia on the other side was an average student who participated in extracurricular activities and this appears to have helped him in his futire life.

As for Muhujia, life seems to have taken it's course and he finds himself in the streets conning unsuspecting citizens with his Pata Potea games, alongside his wife and son.

Kasmuel ends up jobless and is hired by Mafia to work as a manager at his garage, a job that he falls in love with immediately.

Mbiruri were guests at Stat House Nakuru on Wednesday, April 16, where they performed their winning play in front of William Ruto and got a resounding ovation.

The students had the stage well set out and an energy that showed how delighted they were to be performing on such a grand stage.

They showed no fear despite the occasion, which at times can take a toll on the young kids still very early in their careers.

TUKO.co.ke got to speak with the school's Creative teacher Mwiti Kazamwendo, who revealed that the idea came from the students during a general discussion about life.

He said that they started asking themselves certain questions regarding life after school and university and what happens to those who were not accademicaly gifted but stared in stuff like drama, music, games etc.

"The idea came from the drama students as we were having a general discussion about life. How is life after school? Will we ever meet our classmates after high school and university? What could happen to those of us who are not academically gifted but talented in drama ,music ,games and science fair? After Asking this questions were able to start scripting this winning play," Mwiti said.

He added that the play shows the importance of students taking part in co-curricular activities, adding that we can never predict the future and how our talents may affect it.

"The play highlights the importance of giving students time and science to participate in co-curricular activities as they are taking shape. The future is unknown,a nd we never know our talents will take us places," he added.

Kazamwendo also noted that the play tries to promote the CBC system, which Kenya has adopted in recent years and tries to ensure a child gets to figure out where they are good at pretty early.

During the State House gala, TUKO.co.ke reported that the president gave a warning to those trying to influence school-going children negatively.

Reacting to the Echoes of War drama, President Willia Ruto appeared to warn politcians to leave learners alone and take politics somewhere else.

He said children must be protected from predators aiming to corrupt them with negative ethnicity and vowed to 'deal' with such people.

The president said he was committed to preventing the radicalisation of children, and urged parents to support their kids in sports, arts and academics, to achieve their goals.
