"Exceptional" Premier League star sets one key condition for joining Liverpool

have taken another massive step in what’s already been an impressive summer transfer window—and it looks set to get even better.

After securing Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen and with the imminent signing of Bournemouth fullback Milos Kerkez, Liverpool recently announced the British record transfer of Florian Wirtz from Leverkusen for £116.5 million.

Wirtz has been one of world football’s standout creative midfielders over the past two years. He played a key role in guiding Leverkusen to their first-ever Bundesliga title in the 2023/24 season and attracted interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs—including Real Madrid—before choosing a move to Merseyside.

“I just thought that it was the right point in my career to make the next step and of course I wanted to get to a club that is from the top three in the world, and in my opinion Liverpool was one of them,” Wirtz said in his first interview as a Liverpool player.

“Yeah, I just saw myself in the best hands in Liverpool,” he added. “I was really convinced by the people here, by the idea, and everything the club offers me was really good. And in the end [it was] also easy to be excited for me to come to Liverpool.”

Liverpool aren’t finished yet. Alongside the expected arrival of Kerkez, the Reds are reportedly preparing a shock bid for Crystal Palace and England defender Marc Guehi.

Guehi has just one year remaining on his Palace contract. With Palace expected to bring in another defender, Liverpool see a prime opportunity to strike, according to TalkSPORT.

Manager Arne Slot is eager to strengthen his central defence. With Jarell Quansah heading to Leverkusen and Joe Gomez’s future uncertain as he approaches free agency in July, Guehi fits the bill perfectly.

However, Guehi won’t come cheap. Crystal Palace rejected bids exceeding £60 million from Newcastle United and Tottenham in January, with both clubs expected to return with fresh offers.

Sky Sports reports Guehi has set one key condition for a Liverpool move: he wants to be a regular first-team starter.

If the transfer goes through, Liverpool will add one of the Premier League’s—and Europe’s—most assured central defenders.

Following his standout performances for England at Euro 2024, former Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart called Guehi “exceptional,” while Micah Richards described him as “calm and composed.”
