In a heartfelt appeal, Omondi took to social media to urge the public to support Leonard, whose family was tragically torn apart by a suspected arson attack that claimed the lives of nine people.
Omondi shared an emotional video on social media showing the mass grave being dug for the victims and images of the lost family members, appealing for donations.
He updated the public that the family had raised nearly Ksh 500,000 but still needed more support to reach their target of Ksh 1.5 million for the funeral expenses.
“We've raised nearly Ksh 500k, and the burial is set for Friday. Let's aim to reach Ksh 1.5 million for Leonard. He tragically lost 9 family members in a fire, and the emotional toll is too much to bear. Please contribute whatever you can," he wrote, providing donation details," he shared.
The victims, Ouma Opondo, his wife Wilkister Anyango, and their seven children: Lorene, Melvin, Sheila, Davis, Ryan, Noela, and Leon, perished in a fire while asleep, when unknown assailants set their home ablaze.
The tragedy has left the family reeling, and Leonard is among the relative who have been left with the emotional and financial burden of giving his loved ones a proper send-off.
Previously, the family noted that due to their cultural practices, they cannot proceed with the burial until the house is rebuilt.
However, the cost of rebuilding and the burial has stretched their resources, forcing them to push the burial ceremony's date as they seek financial assistance.
