Speaking to the press on Monday, June 16, Meshack Ojwang confirmed he had spoken to the president, who offered the family financial assistance following Albert’s tragic death.
The president’s donation came alongside a separate KSh 1 million contribution from Raila Odinga, who called from abroad to console the bereaved family.
However, the comedian, who was among the first to rally support for the grieving family, said he felt betrayed by the acceptance of funds from the same government he blames for Albert’s death.
“I was betrayed, disappointed and angered because we lost a brother, he lost a son, in the hands of government agencies. I really felt betrayed,” Eric said.
The activist further revealed the overwhelming support Kenyans had already shown after he shared the family's contact details and opened a paybill number to raise funds.
“We shared the father's number, ikajaa, that is KSh 1 million. We then shared his second number, it also was filled, then we shared that of his mum, the widow and they all filled. I also opened a paybill for the family which is under the wife and mother. As we speak, that paybill has KSh 2.6 million,” he explained.
According to Eric, the total raised by Kenyans had reached roughly KSh 10 million within just a few days, seemingly questioning why the family still needed to accept money from the government.

Here are some comments from social media users:
"Enyewe Eric sasa angekataa 2M seriously?"
"So ukisaidia mtu unataka ku dictate maisha yake?"
"Tenda wema nenda zako."
"Hiyo 2m ilikuwa mchango wa ruto same way kuna mtu alituma 100 or even 20. President aliguswa the same way mliguswa."
"But how was he supposed to reject president call or help surely."
"When grieving, you accept help even from your enemies."
"A president offering financial assistance for a funeral, even if the government is involved in the son's death, could be seen as a gesture of respect and an attempt to offer some form of comfort during a difficult time."
