Ruto fired George Wanga, husband to Homabay Governor Gladys Wanga, five months after he appointed him to the post.

In a gazette notice dated June 16, 2025, President Ruto revoked the appointment of Wanga, picking Adan Hail Ali, former Mandera South Member of Parliament.

Ali will serve for a period of three years, with effect from Monday, June 16, 2025.

"I appoint Adan Hail Ali to be the non-executive Chairperson of the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA), for three years, with effect from June 16, 2025. The appointment of George Wanga is revoked," Ruto said in the gazette notice.

According to the Parliament website, Ali was the County Executive Committee (CEC) member for Tourism, Innovations and ICT in Kwale County before he became the MP of Mandera South.

He has worked as General Manager at Baobab Beach Resort from 1994 to 2013.

The lawmaker holds a Master's in Business Administration degree and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Nairobi.

He also holds a Diploma in Hotel Management from Kenya Utalii College.

Profile data from EPRA showed that George Okeyo Wanga was appointed the chairperson on January 17, 2025, under the provisions of Section 12(1)(a), (2) & (3) of the Energy Act, No. 1 of 2019.

Wanga's role at the energy regulator was to facilitate effective corporate governance, strategy, oversight and offer the needed policy direction.

He boasts over two decades in senior leadership and entrepreneurial roles in the public, private and financial services sectors.

He holds a Master's Degree in Business Administration (MBA) with a focus on Operations Management and a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in Economics all from the University of Nairobi.

According to the gazette notice dated January 17, 2025, Ruto appointed George Wanga as EPRA board chairman for a period of three years.

Wanga's appointment came as a reward for President Ruto's loyalties and after the formation of the Broad-Based Government.

The head of state also appointed former CS Aisha Jumwa to chair the Kenya Roads Board (KRB).

He also appointed Millicent Omanga to Kenya Shipyards Limited as a member of the board of directors for three years.
