The is currently celebrating its yearly mega sale, which not only offers great discounts, but also gives away free mystery games. While these mystery games are still the typical weekly free games Epic has given away for several years now, it's still exciting to wonder what will be given away next to possibly finding an unexpected favorite. Players will get to see what's behind the Epic Games Store vault doors every Thursday at 10 AM CT for the next few weeks.
To some, the mega sale free games may be a bit of a bummer compared to the daily mystery games given out around the holidays. The mega sale may keep its freebies under lock and key for a while, but in the end, they're still given out on the same weekly basis. The only real change is that players won't know what's being given away until they can claim it. It may make it difficult for those who like to plan for picking up free games a week in advance, but Epic usually makes it worth the players' while with big titles being first in the set of freebies, like Dead Island 2 and Dragon Age: Inquisition.

The yearly mega sale once more adds mystery games to the Epic Games Store's list of freebies, and the first two are surprising in more ways than one.
Currently, players can grab the first mystery games until the new set gets rotated in on May 22. As previously mentioned, Dead Island 2 is helping kick off these freebies with a bang. Players can get the 20-hour experience at no extra cost and experience it with any friends who also take advantage of the deal with a dedicated online co-op campaign. Alongside it, Happy Game brings back developers Amanita Design to the free games page after April gave away its other titles Botanicula and Chuchel. Unlike the previous games, however, Happy Game is not as it appears, as it tells the story of a psychedelic horror nightmare through the eyes of a child.
The last mega sale only had Dragon Age: Inquisition up for grabs at the start of its mystery game reveals, so the two games that this set started with are already a bonus comparatively. This is both surprising yet not, as the Epic Games Store's 2025 run has been one filled with experimentation. From breaking holiday traditions to making April follow a pattern almost all month long, the free games page was full of surprises long before the mega sale began.
The mystery games seem to be following this pattern as players have a sizable bounty to pick up this year. Dead Island 2 and Happy Game are being followed up with not two, but three entirely new mystery games. This means that players may want to keep their eyes on the storefront for the rest of the week, as there may be even more mystery games beyond that going forward. Fans can look forward to mystery games on the weeks listed below.
The unannounced weeks for the mega sale free games could either be just as abundant as the weeks before it, or slow down after so many freebies have already been given away. Five free games on the Epic Games Store is still fairly generous, but 2025 has given away more pairs of games than one singular one per week so far. Unless a credible leak appears and gives away what's coming next, the only way fans will see what they can grab in June is if they check the store regularly. Even if the last two weeks only give away one game, the mega sale won't mark the end of the promotion. There are plenty of more free games coming throughout the year, just without the intrigue of what's behind the vault.
