Getty Images for iHeartMediaIn about a month, Elton John will release his new album, Who Believes in Angels? The project sees him teaming up with Brandi Carlile for a full-length, and fans of both artists are incredibly excited to hear the collection. Longtime lovers of John’s music are so pumped that they’re returning to the classics that made him a superstar decades ago.
Just one of the piano player’s albums appears on the Billboard charts this week, but it’s gaining substantially in terms of consumption, as his audience focuses its listening — and seemingly, largely, its streaming attention – on one title. Diamonds appears on four Billboard rankings this week, rising on all of them, and it’s a certified hit on each and every tally it finds space on this time around.
John’s Diamonds compilation lives inside the top 10 on half of all the Billboard rosters it can be found on this frame. It lifts from No. 8 to No. 6 on the Top Rock Albums chart and experiences similar growth from No. 9 to No. 7 on the Top Rock & Alternative Albums tally.
Diamonds is also a top 40 win on the other two rosters where fans keep it moving higher. The title pushes from No. 40 to No. 32 on the Top Streaming Albums chart, the ranking of the most streamed full-lengths and EPs throughout the country.
It’s back inside the top 40 on the Billboard 200 as well, but only just barely. This time around, Diamonds climbs from No. 48 to No. 39 on the most competitive album roster in the U.S.
Unsurprisingly, Diamonds has performed best on the two genre-specific lists, as it’s one of the more successful rock-labeled compilations in recent memory. John’s hit-packed set has reached No. 1 on both the Top Rock Albums and Top Rock & Alternative Albums lists in the past. It also broke into the top 10 on the Billboard 200, where it climbed to No. 7.
Diamonds has not performed nearly as well on the Top Streaming Albums chart, which was only introduced a little more than a year ago. On that roster, it has climbed as high as No. 23.
It makes sense that Diamonds has also spent the least amount of time on the Top Streaming Albums chart. On that list, it has earned 71 stays, but it’s up to 380 turns on all of the other tallies where it is present.
John and Carlile will release Who Believes in Angels? on April 4. By that point, they may have won an Academy Award together, as they are jointly nominated for Best Original Song for "Never Too Late" from the documentary of the same name, all about John’s final tour.
