ECG Accra West Pledges Reliable Power Supply Amid Revenue Drive
By Stanley Senya
Accra, June 17, GNA – The Accra West Region of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has reaffirmed its commitment to providing reliable and uninterrupted power to its customers, especially industrial and institutional clients.
The assurance follows ongoing investments in infrastructure upgrades, equipment improvements, and enhanced customer service delivery.
A statement copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra said Mrs Sariel Etwire, General Manager for ECG Accra West, made the pledge during a series of stakeholder engagements with key Special Load Tariff (SLT) customers.
These include major manufacturing, banking, educational, and production facilities that consume significant power volumes.
The visits formed part of ECG’s ongoing nationwide revenue mobilisation initiative dubbed “Operation Pay Your Electricity Bill,” launched by the Acting Managing Director of the company.
The statement said the revenue mobilisation campaign targeted all customer categories in arrears, including residential, commercial, industrial, and government institutions. The goal is to recover outstanding debts and strengthen ECG’s financial capacity to deliver quality service.
During her interactions, Mrs Etwire expressed appreciation to institutions that consistently pay their electricity bills on time.
She noted that timely payments enable ECG to meet its own financial obligations to power generators and bulk suppliers, ensuring continuity in electricity delivery.
“To sustain reliable electricity supply, we’ve invested in installing higher-rated transformers in communities where demand has exceeded existing capacity,” she said.
Additionally, she said, “We’ve increased the number of technical teams assigned to quickly resolve faults and restore supply, thereby minimising downtime and improving the overall customer experience.”
She explained that these measures were part of ECG’s broader effort to modernise the distribution network and keep pace with Ghana’s growing energy demand, particularly in urban and industrial areas.
The statement said SLT customers who participated in the engagement expressed satisfaction with ECG’s recent improvements in supply reliability and urged continued collaboration.
They also recommended more regular dialogue with ECG to maintain a strong working relationship.
Companies visited on the first day of the exercise included Coral Paints, Fanmilk Ghana Ltd., Decorplast, Ashfoam, Qualiplast, Polyproducts, Dizengoff, GIHOC Distilleries, and Innolink Ghana Ltd.
Mrs Etwire warned against illegal activities such as self-reconnection after disconnection or tampering with metering equipment.
She disclosed that ECG had deployed monitoring teams to detect and prosecute such offenders.
“Customers who illegally reconnect after disconnection or interfere with our operations risk prosecution,” she said.
She also encouraged customers to use ECG’s convenient digital channels such as the ECG mobile app or USSD code *226# for bill payments.
The Accra West Region of ECG comprises eight operational districts: Ablekuma, Achimota, Amasaman, Bortianor, Dansoman, Kaneshie, Korle Bu, and Nsawam. These areas are key economic zones within the Greater Accra Region, housing both high-density residential settlements and critical commercial and industrial operations.
