"Dragon Ball Daima Lands" on Toonami June 14
Toonami has revealed its latest returning Shonen Jump franchise will be Dragon Ball Daima, premiering June 14 at 12:30 am. Dragon Ball Daima is the new 20 episode spinoff of the long-running Dragon Ball franchise set between Z and Super. Daima focuses on Goku and friends being de-aged due to a wish from villains from the Demon Realm. While all previous installments of Dragon Ball have always aired on Toonami, other than a few movies and OVAs, the certainty of Daima arriving has been in doubt. Dragon Ball Kai’s sudden removal from Toonami’s Saturday lineup during the battle between Goku vs Frieza in March 2025 left the block with no Dragon Ball for three months.
Here’s a breakdown of the new schedule starting June 14th:
At midnight, Lazarus, the newest Toonami original series by Shinichiro Watanabe, continues the search for Dr. Skinner. If Lazarus continues to air weekly without preemptions through June, it will conclude its 13 episode run on June 28. A customary Toonami marathon of the second half of the series is likely to follow on July 5, for 4th of July weekend, though we’ll await confirmation on that.
At 12:30, Dragon Ball Daima arrives. Despite having previously had a dub release on streaming platforms like Crunchyroll, Hulu, and Netflix, Dragon Ball’s importance to Toonami and Toei’s continued partnership with Toonami has allowed Toonami to overcome the usual licensing hurdles. The premiere episode of Daima contains a lengthy recap of Dragon Ball Z, so this will run 15 minutes over for June 14, but later episodes have more standard anime runtimes.
At 1:15 AM, Bleach: the Thousand Year Blood War continues its run. In May, Bleach returned to Toonami with new episodes for the first time in over a decade. Initial ratings for its return were the highest Toonami has seen in years, but it has petered off in the following weeks. Toonami is banking on the return of heavy hitters like Bleach and Dragon Ball Daima to revive interest in the block.
At 1:45, Blue Exorcist: Kyoto Saga continues. This is the first time this 2017 season of Blue Exorcist has aired on Toonami, and follows both the 2014 and 2024-2025 run of season 1. TOM and SARA recently did a block intro where they had to explain to ignore the late season 1 episodes, which feature an anime original conclusion ignored by season 2.
At 2:15, One Piece airs for a single timeslot. Toonami has burned through what would normally be six months of One Piece episodes in the three months since a second One Piece replaced Dragon Ball Z Kai. With the Dressrosa arc finally in its climax as Luffy’s fight with Doflamingo draws to a close on the 21st, the accelerated pacing to make it through this 118 episode arc is no longer necessary.
At 2:45, Naruto continues its run, with the Chunin Exams arc having just begun last week. With the Toonami Rewind-skipped Zabuza arc having concluded its Saturday night run, Naruto is now re-entering territory covered by Rewind. However the Chunin Exams have yet to see a complete uncut airing on adult swim, as three prior attempts to air them were cut short. Currently Adult Swim has up to episode 57 available on demand, indicating they have plenty more Naruto episodes to air throughout the year.
Sailor Moon continues season 1 in a 3:15 AM slot, even as this weekend marks the first Toonami block since the It remains to be seen if Toonami will pick up season 2 of Naruto and Sailor Moon, but their continued presence on the Toonami Saturdays lineup as well as the addition of other returning favorites seems to bode well for their continued presence on the block. Notably the additional One Piece was replaced with Daima, rather than Naruto or Sailor Moon being replaced. Toonami seems to recognize the significance of Naruto, Sailor Moon, and Dragon Ball to their brand, even after the disappointingly short half year tenure of Naruto, Sailor Moon, and Dragon Ball Z Kai on Fridays’ Toonami Rewind.
The current lineup contains an all-star lineup of Toonami’s greatest hits from the 90s to the 2010s, from weekdays (Dragon Ball and Sailor Moon) to Saturday nights (Naruto and One Piece) to Adult Swim (Blue Exorcist and Bleach).
Are you looking forward to Dragon Ball Daima, or would you have preferred a continuation of Dragon Ball Super?
