President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has asked members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State not to take anything for granted but work hard to win the July 12, 2025 local government elections in the state.
Tinubu also urged aspirants who lost out during the APC primary to close ranks and work for the victory of the party.
Tinubu’s message was delivered by the state governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, during a parley with party stakeholders at the State House, Marina.
The parley tagged “Stakeholders’ meeting with Mr Governor” had in attendance stakeholders of the party across the state as well as candidates for the chairmanship and councillorship positions.
Sanwo-Olu also asked party members to mobilise for the APC ahead of the election. The governor also warned the candidates not to disappoint the leaders and stakeholders of the party who entrusted them with the ticket, saying a four-year tenure is enough for any chairman to make an impact.
The governor said the local government administration is the closest to the people, hence the need for the chairmanship candidates to prioritise “economic development and economic sustainability.”
He said, “This is a joint ticket for the chairman and vice-chairman. It is a call to service; there should not be acrimony, division or any issue. I expect the vice-chairman to give the chairman support. The chairman would give you your deserved respect and recognition.”
Chairman of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) in Lagos, Prince Tajudeen Olusi, said the attempt to rewrite the history of the June 12, 1993, election by painting President Bola Tinubu in bad light will fail.
He spoke in defence of Tinubu who was recently accused of supporting the June 12, 1993 election annulment by former governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido.
In his remarks, the state chairman of the APC, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, tasked the candidates to align their programmes and activities with the policies of the state and the federal government so that the benefits of democracy would trickle down.
